Craft Camp 2011...Days One, Two + Three

Day One of Craft Camp!
The girls came ready to work, chat and get to know one another.

On the agenda for Day One.....Chalkboard Plaques for their bedrooms.
This was such a hit at YW Girls Camp....I knew these girls would love it too.

The girls simply painted rectangle pieces of wood with pre-drilled holes on the top for ribbon with chalkboard paint. In between waiting for coats of paint to dry we started cutting out felt triangles for our day two craft that would carry them through for the next couple of days.

I like to have one or two little projects that they can continually work on while there might be down time when they are waiting to use the glue gun, sewing machine, etc!

I gave each girl a piece of scratch paper so they could sketch out what they might want the border of their chalkboard plaque to look like. Once they had completed their sketch....they got to work painting!
Here are their finished pieces...

I was so impressed with their creativity!
There were lemonade signs made, bubbles painted on, polka dots and flowers galore.

Day Two of Craft Camp!

They arrived at camp on Day Two ready to pick out their ribbon, write on their chalkboards and get to work making a necklace out of the felt triangles that they had cut out the day before.

We were going to use the felt triangles (which I called squares all week...that made the girls giggle) for a few projects. The first two were necklaces using felt triangles, bakers twine and a large eye'd needle.

The girls first made a 4th of July necklace.
I love how some of the girls chose turquoise as their 'blue'!

The original idea for this sweet pennant necklace came from Skip to My Lou's first Craft Camp Post from this year! Click on the link for the easy tutorial. We found that actually five triangles worked better on their little necks!

They then went to town cutting triangles out of all different colors of felt in preparation for Day Three of Camp.

Day Three of Craft Camp!

Day three of Craft Camp started off with the girls playing with different feather combinations. I wanted them to experience how taking time to make up different combinations can lead to more creativity with color and choices. We were going to be making flower feather headbands, but I knew if I told them right off the bat, they would each grab something quickly and the process would end there. It was fun to help the girls come up with pretty combinations and then add a pretty silk flower to the feathers to complete the look!

I found the bag of feathers from Michael's and had the silk flowers and metal headbands in my stash. It was so sweet to watch the girls swell with pride over their beautiful creations.

While the girls were waiting to use the glue gun they kept working with their felt triangles....making a summer necklace option with bright colors and a cute pennant bunting to use as decoration in their bedrooms!

Come back tomorrow to see what we did on Day Four + Five at Craft Camp!

P.S. If you haven't noticed....my blog posting has been light so far this summer. I'm enjoying some time off and trying to be present with my children. Oh who am I kidding....I'm alsocatching up on laundry, office work and getting FVL orders out. But I do intend to post a little less often this summer....hope you will hang in there with me if I get a little sporadic.
